We took a day trip on our first official day in Croatia to Plitvice Lakes National Park, a national wonder of never-ending waterfalls. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of it previously, but it often comes up on lists of top natural wonders.
I really recommend you google-image the park just to help you grasp how beautiful it is! There is no way to capture it with a ground level photo because of how grand this whole place is.
Unfortunately, the bus schedule changed on us last minute, so we spent 8 hours driving for only 2 hours at the park. We had to marathon our way through to do in 2 hours what people do in 1-2 days! Oh well – it’s very Canadian of us to drive forever for a quick day trip…
The whole place has 16 lakes which are interconnected with one another by flowing waterfalls from mountain run-off. One of the beautiful things about it is the blue-green water that is crystal clear. Probably partly because UNESCO doesn’t allow bathing in these waters.
It is a lovely place to wander around and enjoy the sites, and I’d definitely recommend spending more time there in the future.
