The drive was a fair distance, but it took us deep into southern Germany where the Alps quickly came into view.
The purpose of the visit was to see the enchanting fairytale castle, Schloss Neuschwanstein. This castle is famously known as the inspiration for Disney’s classic Cinderella castle.
What makes it seem so much more magical is that it’s perched up on a hill hidden among the mountains. It arguably has one of the most beautiful castle views, which is what its owner, King Ludwig, had in mind when choosing its location. Personally, I’d love to wake up to this everyday:
Unfortunately for him, he died before the castle’s completion. It wasn’t long after this that the palace opened to tourists… since then, it continues to draw huge crowds yearly for its unique beauty.
